I can’t stress enough how much light it has shed on my life. Any person wrestling with why does God seem silent and uninvolved–even if he exists–will appreciate and identify with his openness and candor.
And it also true that even God in the flesh as Christ, a part of our ordinary life, wasn’t enough to secure goc faith in Him. I think it will help me be a better listener to those who are going through disappointment with God and perhaps have a better conversation with them to offer the encouragement I feel and experience in my relationship with God.
I also struggled disappoimtment some of the content– deciding that a few could have been left out I found myself getting impatient. Many people want to see God, to have miracles happen all the time, to have every prayer answered. It didn’t really mean anything to me then. I was in a place of agonizing emotional pain and was being beat up by the enemy and the world so if you are going through that, hang in there and read this book. The most powerful statement in the entire book was made by the man Yancey interviewed that lost his family, then was involved in a car accident and left him with a bad eye and a speech impediment.
That response never once occurred to Job.
