The size of the book is dingorn plus you can bring it to the tournament orck check your lines before the games. The book is not is not filled with unnecessary information variation over variation and the choices presented by the author anticipated all of my opponent’s choices so gock rating range from to USCF. Eingorn’s choices maximize Black’s potential to restric White’s options early in the game.
As a bonus Eingorn’s cunning move orders can confuse your opponent early in the game and hand you an easy equality without doing anything special. The book The author’s premises are the following.
Wide Solix repertoire around Variations are stable but allow you to open your strategic options in the future. For example, Dutch structures ssolid not mention but you can explore them not early Nf6 allow an early f5 push by black 3.
Sound but less explore chess variations have preference in this book. All eingirn suggestion are playable for black, but some variations can be evaluated as unclear because the need more investigation your opportunity to shine! The pace of events in some of Eingorn’s suggestions is variable as in chapter 11 a transposition to the sicilian four knights is recommended. I embrace this alternative with an open mind since the middle game in the sicilian four knights has strategic similarity with some variations in the French the author’s recommendation against 1.
So I do not find this alternative disturbing I just need to learn some variations in a very atypical sicilian and enjoy the ride. If you want to play at a slower pace of events than in a Sicilian may be The early Nf3 restricted White’s options to play a favorable Queens Gambit exchange variation. I mean Eingorn’s suggestions are solid but sometimes you need to play a pawn down and the sharpeness of the game raises. In this game I had my chances in the middle game, later This was a ‘slowpace game” and the author’s recommendations passed the test with flying colors against master strenght opposition.
My opponent tried solic blow me out of the board early in the game and forced the pace of events. To counter his opening strategy I sacked a pawn temporarily for sokid moves then recovered the pawn but my opponent has a bad pawn structure. Again,my opponent raised the sharpeness of the game by castling long generating a middle game with opposite side castling. I neutralized his initiative and kept my structural advantage offered a draw in a slighly better position The material is easy acessible and the book layout is superb.

A Rock-Solid Chess Opening Repertoire for Black by Viacheslav Eingorn (2012, Paperback)
This primarily means playing the French defense against e4 and either eingon Nimzo-Indian or Bogo-Indian hybrid against d4. Where these are not possible, ideas are given as to how black should play.
As rick many opening repertoire books, this one penned by GM Eingorn, consists of what seems like endless variations to memorize, with most ending eingor a comment like “black stands better” or “the position is even”.
My criticism of this format is one that can be levied against many opening repertoire books- namely there is no explanation or analysis as to why the position is now even or why black stands better.
Superior opening books also give you some advice as ringorn what “ideas” or “plans” black should be thinking about as the variation concludes. This is not the case with Eingorn’s book, where one variation ends and the next now begins. To be fair the final chapter has 15 illustrative games, but i am not sold that these few examples are sufficient to help someone new to slid systems. By comparison my book “Starting out the KID” while only dealing with black’s response to d4 has 68 illustrative games and far more comments on important moves within a variation.
I consider this a serious flaw, but something I also wanted to mention for those considering the purchase of this book is the title including the words “Rock Solid”. I will admit that I purchased this book with my own idea of what Rock-Solid means.
I am primarily a positional player looking to gain a solid safe position first before moving forward with a plan to attack my opponent. I therefore felt a “Rock-Solid” repertoire would fit in nicely with my style. Apparently Eingorn’s definition of this phrase is considerably different. Many of the variations he advocates are sharp, tactical, and Soldi would even say crazy aggressive ways for black to play. Black’s King sometimes remains uncastled and by often playing an early Rocck to f5, castle weaknesses must be kept constantly in mind right from the opening.
This is not a comment on the worth or effectiveness of the repertoire which i am still einyorn familiar with, but a comment on the title of the book and what I thought it meant. I am sure that such a style will appeal to many and many also may not mind a book of endless variations to memorize, I just think an opening book could be more. So why 3 stars instead of an unfavorable rating? In limited play I have had OK results with this system. I had never played the French, Nimzo, or Bogo defenses before and have memorized only a few variations but actually beat someone I always lose to.
On the other hand I have also lost several games when i found myself in unfamiliar positions rpck a clear idea what roco do next.
The actual effectiveness of GM Eingorn’s ideas are still a work in progress for me but even if i master it and win with frequency using it, I still would not raise my rating. An opening repertoire book must be better than this in helping those new to the system. See all 4 reviews. Pages with related products.
